NIAB is an autonomous institution of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, leading in basic and translational research on animal health and productivity and human-animal interface with a motto to improve animal health for human welfare. The institute has a ravishing 100-acre campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The institute provides opportunities for pursuing cutting edge research using advanced technologies in frontier areas of science such as development of next-generation vaccines, immunology, genomics, gene and protein engineering, host-pathogen interactions, disease diagnostics, nanotechnology; bioinformatics, drug delivery platforms; nutrition, reproductive biotechnology; stem cell therapeutics, gene editing, transgenic technology for humanized mouse models and farm animals, zoonosis and One Health.

NIAB has a thriving PhD program with more than 100 students working at different stages for their PhD degree under the tutelage of NIAB Scientists. The students undergo a mandatary course-work for six months. A student advisory committee (SAC) is formed for each student, under the chairmanship of the thesis supervisor which will monitor the progress of the student periodically and offer suitable advice. A weekly journal club is organized, for which attendance of all students is mandatory. Students are encouraged to participate in various conferences and workshops with an adequate financial support from NIAB to provide a stimulatory academic environment to each student in the PhD program.

The institute houses a world-class, state-of-the-art, cutting-edge research infrastructure and facilities. PhD students will have ample opportunities to develop scientific temperament, learn and challenge the rigors of research, and to fathom the realms and frontiers of science and technology. Students will interact with top-notch faculties trained around the globe with expertise in various advanced biotechnological tools and techniques in a multidisciplinary research environment. NIAB offers a research building with a picturesque urban campus having a lively and dynamic community, and a relaxed lifestyle. Students are expected to stay in our hostel within campus, a hygienic and safe canteen with cooks and service providers stationed in house.

Open Call for NIAB Master’s Dissertation Programme

NIAB MASTER’S DISSERTATION PROGRAMS:

The National Institute of Animal Biotechnology has a mandate towards human resource development and capacity building in the country. Towards this goal, NIAB offers Master’s Dissertation Programs to postgraduate students from around the country.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Dissertation Program is open to students pursuing 4-year bachelor’s degree / Master’s Degree / Integrated Master’s Programme / M.Tech. / M.VSc. in life sciences or in any other related discipline relevant to the research programs of NIAB. Admission is contingent upon providing a documentary undertaking from the HOD or competent authority confirming the duration for which the student will be seeking training at NIAB.

PROGRAM DURATION:

NIAB takes in dissertation students in two categories. Category 1: for a duration of a minimum of 6 months to less than 1 year. Category 2: for a duration of 1 year. NIAB does not take trainees for less than 6 months duration.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Interested candidates may apply directly to the respective scientist as per their choice with a CV and an undertaking from the HOD or competent authority for the duration of their stay. The programs are open throughout the year, and one can apply at any time during an academic year.

Note:

  • There is no fee for the Dissertation Training Programme at NIAB.
  • NIAB does not provide hostel or mess facilities for the dissertation trainees. Candidates need to arrange their own accommodation and food.
  • NIAB has daytime canteen facilities which can be availed by the trainees.

Open Call for NIAB’s Paid Internship Programme

We are happy to announce the launch of NIAB’s Paid Internship Programme. This research internship is tailored for enthusiastic students, who have finished their academic training and who are keen to begin their research careers. It provides a distinctive chance for students to engage with pioneering research at NIAB, connect with the scientific community, and gain essential skills for a research career. Participants will engage in practical, goal-driven research training within NIAB’s laboratories. We accept applicants under two categories:

Category – A

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Charges: 8k/month (Paid at the start of the internship)
  • Tenure: July to December in a calendar year

Category – B

  • Duration: 1 year
  • Charges: 5k/month (Paid at the start of the internship)
  • Tenure: July to June in subsequent calendar year
Eligibility

Candidates must have M.Sc/MV.Sc./MTech. /Post-graduation/ B.Tech in Life Sciences. The degree must be awarded before beginning the internship at NIAB.
